There is a lot of snobbery in the ukulele world. If you have a laminated uke, the instument is immediately dismissed as having little merit musically. Even ukes with a solid wood soundboard like mine, are disparaged by those who swear (despite no evidence, and even some to the contrary) that all solid ukes have a much better tone. It would be interesting if someone were to produce an all laminated uke which sounded so superb that they couldn`t ignore it.

ohmygodyouhavenoideahowhandythiswas.
THANK YOU.
i just got a guitar-styled-strung soprano and had never played a stringer instrument and assumed that was the proper way, and i just was either 1) tuning it wrong or 2) couldn't play right. THANK YOU.

you know, if there is anyone who does not have a ukulele (or who is ordering one) you can get a capo and put it on the 5th fret, but only use the bottom 4 strings. The only bad thing is the D string (or rather g when you put the capo on) is one octave lower then on a ukulele. but it works!

A cavaquinho has steel strings under a lot of tension. The body of the ukulele may not be able to handle the pressure. Did you try it, if so what were the results?

Okay, guys, just bought a Kama left handed tenor Ukelele - and hope to heck I made the right decision. I'm just SO left handed and used to play guitar, about thirty years ago, badly, but left handed. Found some left handed charts on-line. Now, dumb question, if it's a left handed Uke. are the strings strung the same way as a right handed Uke- and also, can't a person just switch regular charts backwards to make them work? Yes, I'm Deslexic too, and a bad speller. Any advice for me, greatly appreciated.

I now have left handed Fluke and I found out that the way a Fluke is made the nut is not what keeps the strings off the fret board there is a little thing like a fret right at the nut which means any Fluke can be restrung left handed and will have no problem with buzzing strings, the Rosewood fret board also is the same way. I have found now other ukulele like that.
